At times, many of us will find ourselves feeling lost, overwhelmed or like things just aren’t working in our lives. Sometimes we may feel like no one knows the real us. Maybe you are having a difficult time in your relationships. Maybe you come from a family where you didn’t have what you needed, or you were wounded in some way. Or maybe, you have found yourself on a path that just doesn’t feel like the right one for you.
I believe in everyone’s capacity to heal and change.
Hello, I'm Jennifer Birner
I am committed to helping people on their path to peace and well-being. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, and I work with clients who are experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues and past trauma. Through psychotherapy and counseling, I support my client’s process of exploration, growth and change. My therapeutic approach combines elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (how automatic thoughts and beliefs may affect our behaviors and limit our choices), mindfulness (focusing on the present with acceptance), and positive psychology (enhancing strengths and building resilience) with a foundation in attachment theory and current neuroscience. My highly personalized approach is tailored to each client. By using an eclectic style, I am able to utilize evidence-based techniques while also working collaboratively with my clients in order to select which methods work best for them.
I received my master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. I have a deep love for the field of psychology, and constantly work to expand my knowledge and expertise through professional training and workshops. I also co-lead a book group specifically for therapists. I have been a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT) since 2011 and the Long Beach South Bay Chapter of CAMFT (LBSB CAMFT) since 2013. I was appointed to the board of LBSB CAMFT and served in 2017 as the Co-VP of Public Relations and in 2018 as the Co-VP of programs.
Most important of all I feel honored and fulfilled to be a part of my client’s path, and witness their process and growth. I am so grateful to do the work that I love.
